Buffalo Grass
Buffalograss is a short growing, perennial warm season sod forming grass. It will green up early in the spring; and with the first freeze in the fall, it will turn a buff color and go dormant. Buffalograss is known for low water use, winter hardiness, and slow vertical growth habit. This significantly reduces labor, irrigation, mowing, and fertilizer costs.
Tatanka
Tatanka is a low maintenance, dense, dark blue-green, fine textured buffalograss that can be established from seed. It is native to the Great Plains of the United States. It is the first true turf-type seeded buffalograss to be released specifically for the cool temperate and transition zones of the U.S. Tatanka is a budget saving alternative to high maintenance turfgrasses.
Tatanka has shown significant improvements in turfgrass quality over other varieties in its area of adaptation. These improvements can be attributed to higher turfgrass density, earlier spring green up, finer texture, and higher disease resistance. Tatanka's low vertical growth rate combined with drought tolerance and winter hardiness makes it an excellent choice to meet the standards for a low maintenance turfgrass with a high level of quality.
Planting Preparation:
Seed 1-3 lbs. per 1000 square feet in a firm seed bed. Plant when soil temps are consistently above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Tatanka may be planted in all soils except sand and cover seed 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Plants will emerge in 14-21 days and become established in 60-90 days.
Do not apply herbicide during establishment. After that, use only products labeled for buffalograss.
Mowing height for best turf is 2-4 inches.
Cody buffalograss
Cody buffalograss is a turf-type seeded buffalograss, developed for a diverse range of climates and geographical regions. Cody is an aggressive, low maintenance, dense, fine textured buffalograss, that can be established from seed. Cody excels in ease and speed of establishment and has a broader area of adaptation than Tatanka. Its turfgrass qualities exceed those of most commercially available seeded varieties.

Bison
Bison is an attractive and environmentally sensitive lawn grass, requiring less fertilizing, watering, and mowing than other turfgrass. Bison can maintain its turf with only 1 to 2 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. per season. Mowing frequency can be reduced to once or twice, in some cases, not at all, depending on the height of the lawn desired. Bison will generally require half the water other turf grasses use once established.
